Fuerteventura Windsurfing and Blog with Stephen Gibson

Windsurfing is one of the main sports on Fuerteventura and it's available for anyone to try. Thousands of windsurfing enthusiasts come to Fuerteventura each year to take advantage of the warm clear waters and strong Atlantic winds. Some get so hooked they decide to stay on and join the large community of Windsurfers and surfers that already live here.

Don't worry if you think this sport is out of your depth, windsurfing is easily mastered within a day by people of all ages with expert tuition provided by one of the excellent Windsurf centers on the Island. These centres offer a full range of equipment for rent to suit everyone from the complete novice to accomplished wave sailor.
What better way to spend those hot sunny days than in warm clear water having fun and getting a suntan at the same time?!

For those who have already mastered the art of windsurfing Fuerteventura is the place to be!
The constant tradewinds during the summer months and huge swells in the winter provide a wide range of conditions to suit all. You can choose from the many different spots to sail depending on your ability. Be it flat out slalom blasting in the bay or extreme wave sailing on one of the reefs on the North shore, Fuerteventura has it all.
Happy Sailing!

CAROLINE UPDATE!!!!!!!
As you can probably see in the photos, there has been great progress in Caroline's windsurfing. She has been going to the lagoons in Cotillo with her friend Merce throughout the month of July and have both made the impressive leap from beginners to fully planing, feet in the straps windsurfers! They are now both comfortably beachstarting, using the harness and planing in the straps!Wicked. Now the fun really begins.Caroline has already had some pretty impressive full face hooked-in catapults but, amazingly, always comes up smiling!
Unfortunately,it would appear that the lagoons are now a no-go area for everyone due to the appearance of millions of k*********s,mainly italians and posey girls, who spend their time parading around the beach in designer budgiesmugglers(speedos) and getting dragged over the rocks by their blowy-up parachutes, and, basically, rendering the whole place too dangerous for anyone else, including sunbathers.Oh well, time to get back to Waikiki and the open ocean...........
I'll leave you with a few photos of happy days in the lagoons...............
Well done,girls............
