Fuerteventura - Windsurfing
Fuerteventura Windsurfing and Blog with Stephen Gibson
Windsurfing is one of the main sports on Fuerteventura and it's available for anyone to try. Thousands of windsurfing enthusiasts come to Fuerteventura each year to take advantage of the warm clear waters and strong Atlantic winds. Some get so hooked they decide to stay on and join the large community of Windsurfers and surfers that already live here.
Don't worry if you think this sport is out of your depth, windsurfing is easily mastered within a day by people of all ages with expert tuition provided by one of the excellent Windsurf centers on the Island. These centres offer a full range of equipment for rent to suit everyone from the complete novice to accomplished wave sailor.
What better way to spend those hot sunny days than in warm clear water having fun and getting a suntan at the same time?!
For those who have already mastered the art of windsurfing Fuerteventura is the place to be!
The constant tradewinds during the summer months and huge swells in the winter provide a wide range of conditions to suit all. You can choose from the many different spots to sail depending on your ability. Be it flat out slalom blasting in the bay or extreme wave sailing on one of the reefs on the North shore, Fuerteventura has it all.
Happy Sailing!

Well, the wind arrived at last and we have had two weeks of strong northerlies with all the east coast beaches working. Unfortunately the wind was not accompanied by any decent swell so it has been mainly flat to 1 foot. With little or no waves it has been a time for freestyle at Glass or cruising/bump n jump at Waikiki and Flag Beach. With the water warming now for summer there are lots of turtles out there in the channel so keep your eyes peeled for these beautiful animals.
I have been sailing at Glass Beach most days trying out some new flat water manoeuvres(with limited success!)and also teaching friends. My brother has been on holiday and made a glorious return to windsurfing after a 20 year "sabbatical" and was so impressed with the new kit he's decided to take it up again! Watch out world!
The forecast is looking good for the weekend with strong northeasterlies AND waves for Cotillo and Punta so watch this space for another update and hopefully, photos next week.
