Canary Supreme Court blocks Fuerteventura building projectBy h.b.Mon, 13 Nov 2006, 15:47
The Canary Island Superior Court of Justice, TSJC, has declared a partial plan approved in 2000 by the PP president in Fuerteventura and ex Mayor of La Oliva, Domingo González Arroyo, as null and void. The plan was for the construction of 4,000 hotel beds and residencies in Fuerteventura in an untouched part of the northern coast. There was also a plan for 'the largest golf course in Europe' but this has now been halted because of a legal challenge presented by Agonane, a local branch of Ecologistas en Acción. The plan had been promoted by an Asturian company, Nombredo S.L., owned by Zarceño Prieto.
