The Largest Roundabout in Fuerteventura being constructed in Morro Jable
Morro Jable to the El Ciervo barranco will benefit from the construction of the largest roundabout and road access structure in Fuerteventura thanks to the investment of 1,397,053 euros that the Consejeria de Infraestructuras y Ordenacion del Territorio del Cabildo de Fuerteventura has allocated to the project entitled "Glorieta de acceso a Morro jable por el Barranco de El Ciervo". Work began at the end of 2005 and should be concluded by May of 2006.
The project consists of a hub type public square with capacity sufficient for the level of traffic on highway FV2 serving the road from the town of Morro Jable to the Barranco de El Ciervo. There will also be pedestrian walkways above and below the surface.
Apart from the motorway section from the Airport to Puerto del Rosario, this zone has the highest daily average of vehicle circulation in the island with more than 12,000 vehicles - many of them heavy vehicles - going to and fro the port. This has been causing access problems at certain times of the day. The Ayuntamiento proposed with support by the Cabildo, a public square with 15 meter wide passages at different levels allowing three routes of circulation plus pedestrian underpasses.
Drainage and lighting are part and parcel of the construction. Minimum disruption in the meantime is being forecast.
