Fuerteventura Sport - Deep Sea Fishing

The exceptional climate, volcanic sea beds and depths of up to 3500 mts make Fuerteventura a deep-sea fishing paradise

From the moment you feel that first twitch on the line to the moment you finally land that big catch can now be experienced first hand on Fuerteventura, one of the world's leading locations for big game enthusiasts.

There is an enormous variety of fish to be caught here including the marlin and the legendary swordfish (right) which, once defeated, is returned to the sea.

Best of all, to take part in this unique sport no previous experience is required.
The world record Mako shark (488 kg) was caught by an Englishman, on holiday in the Canaries who had never held a fishing rod in his life!

Any fish such as Blue and White Marlin, spear fish, rays and sharks etc. are all tagged and released.

There are however, circumstances in which some fish will not be released.
These fish will be used for private purposes.

If battling with big fish isn't your scene the boat trip can be just as exciting, especially when dolphins or whales are spotted.
You will almost always see flying fish or turtles on the way out to the fishing zone and the boats deck is a perfect place to top up that tan.

A typical days fishing on Fuerteventura..

Some companies will offer to pick you up from your hotel/apartment but if not you'll have to make your own way to the harbour.

Once you're on board the boat will set off for the fishing zone that best suits the conditions of the day and the type of fish you'll be looking for. Sometimes this can mean traveling quite a way out to sea.

Whilst on the way out you'll stop to catch the bait (usually sardinas) using a large net and pulp. During the journey you'll be shown how to use the equipment how to 'bait up', and of course all of the safety features on board.

To get the most out of your day all of your equipment will be pre-prepared so you'll be ready to cast in straight away and land that prize fish.

One thing you can be sure of on any of the deep sea fishing trips offered, there willl always be someone on hand to help you if you get stuck.

A well deserved lunch and refreshments are generally provided around midday.
Later on in the afternoon you'll head back to port to tell the tale of the one that got away..
